Throughout history, China has censored many subjects. For example, because they are a communist nation and largely based on respect, speaking out against the government is frowned upon, and any works of the sort are censored from public view. They also do not want their citizens to revolt against the harsh government, and thus censor many websites, including any about freedom of speech and man's given rights. Because it is a strict communist nation, if chinese citizens have access to all the world media, they may revolt against the government, which is something they don't want. Sites like Yahoo, Google, iTunes, Twitter, and Youtube are often censored in China. Most likely, the biggest punishment you would recieve is a heavy fine and jail sentence, maybe for severalyears. The least amount of money you could pay would be $1,800.In various ways, censorship became focused in China and so were the punishments. For example, no one was allowed to have full freedom of expression on thoughts or ideas, especially in the press. The Chinese government imprisoned any journalists who provided news to foreigners. Some examples were Zhao Yan, Shi Tao, and Ching Cheong. Publication editors that criticized government policies were dismissed. In the year 2005, the government banned many newspapers that had “illegal” political publications. Without any Chinese government consent, people have been fined, detained, or imprisoned for publishing, printing, or distributing religious literature.
